Reports on Barley Straw Efficacy
There's a lot of information out there on barley
straw and its reputed properties for algae control. On the whole,
the consensus seems to be that rotting barley straw does reduce
populations of some types of algae in some situations. We've found
the following resources to be useful and to provide a relatively
balanced perspective on the issue. We've avoided slams and encomiums.
Please let us
know if you know about weblinks, popular press articles, and scientific
papers on the subject.
The following
resources are rated "positive" and "cautious" in
terms of their take on the efficacy of barley straw for algae control.
We urge you to carefully examine all resources before going to
the trouble and expense of a straw application.
