Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) detection
Many economically important traits show quantitative inheritance: segregating progeny show a continuous pattern of expression rather than the discrete classes characteristic of Mendelian, or qualitative, inheritance. The loci that are determinants of quantitative trait expression are termed Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL). QTL are identified via statistical procedures that integrate genotype (i.e. molecular marker) and phenotype data. QTL are assigned chromosome locations based on the positions of markers on linkage maps. This figure outlines the QTL detection process. Text Version of information.
